If people think that public breastfeeding and public nudity is inappropriate or offensive, then the problem lies with them, not with the mother feeding her child or the naturist roaming the street. Should the naked body really be something to be ashamed of and frowned upon?
My friend Patrick Thompson asked “What is a nudist and is it the same thing as being a naturist?”
I like my friend Boyd Allen‘s response the best.
“The real question is: Are we naked? I am created in the image and likeness of God, so God says. “Let us make man in our image and our likeness”…and he did. WE call it “naked”, God didn’t. So are we nudists? Are we Naturists? Or are we “Man” (meaning “mankind or human, not male specific), and we show how we are created in God’s image and likeness by not covering it up? Maybe, instead of calling us “nudists” or “naturists”, we should call humanity “clothists” and let us be what we really are, human beings.
When Voyager first left for the outer regions of our solar system, they sent along with it a picture of what a man and woman looks like. They are both “naked”, that is, without clothing. Is that a false advertisement? Maybe the Aliens did see it, came and said “where are the humans they showed us? Oh…there they are, at a nudist resort! Why are they there and not in public?” Strange humans.”
As long as we continue to hide our “dirty little secret” society at large will vilify it. It is better to be completely open and have no secrets because “secrets” force people to use their imagination about what you are attempting to hide and their imagination is usually wrong. Time to take a risk, open up about who and what you are and teach society the error of their thoughts and ways. Will you get ridiculed, harassed, and accused of all sorts of horrible things that are not true? Yes, all these things are indeed possible, but how is society ever going to learn and possibly understand if we continue to hide and fail at attempting to educate them. Think about it and think it through. How long are you going to allow the fear rule you? How long are you going to allow discriminatory laws to be created and enacted to prevent someone from being offended?
Are you one of those who believe that our lifestyle is immoral and wrong or should be kept hidden in private? Please explain why you feel or believe the way you do and give us the chance to educate you.
